Shoegaze

By Al.  In chronological order.

1. Jesus And Mary Chain-Just Like Honey

Inventors of shoegaze, gotta be on here.

2. My Bloody Valentine-Feed Me With Your Kiss

The undisputed kings of shoegaze, I put this song on it because hopefully everybody’s listened to Loveless over and over by now.

3. Ride-Vapour Trail

Ride’s Nowhere is almost universally recognized as the second best shoegaze album, which I agree with.  I almost hate that they’re stuck with that title though, because they really do make pretty good music.

4. Swervedriver-Zedhead

Swervedriver is shoegaze for kicking ass to.  Not as much with this song, cause I don’t have Mescal Head.

5. Black Tambourine-Black Car

This band isn’t all that shoegazey, but I still like it a lot.  Also, Black Tambourine gave me comfort in knowing that girls can be just as creepy about crushes as guys.

6. Slowdive-Alison

Slowdive is the third of the big three shoegaze bands (MBV, Ride, Slowdive).  A lot of people think they’re boring, but I think they’re pretty good.

7. Yo La Tengo-Sugarcube

Yo La Tengo are definitely NOT shoegaze, but I do love YLT.  Plus this song is pretty shoegaze.

8. Asobi Seksu-New Years

Not much to say, I like em.  She’s Japanese, and sings in it sometimes.

9. A Place To Bury Strangers-Don’t Think Lover

The most talked about band of the 21st century rebirth of shoegaze (I will NOT say/write Nugaze, except for the one I just used).  Not sure they deserve it all yet, and the production is crap, but their live shows are supposed to be incredible.

10. Ringo Deathstarr-Starrsha

They’re from Austin!
